2011-2012 CALENDAR

Please note:  Carpooling is available for out of town excursions.  We meet at the municipal parking lot behind the Ingersoll Memorial Arena. 

Saturday, November 13- Thanks to the funding generosity of South West Oxford Township, and mega help from the Ingersoll /Dorchester Masons, the IDNC was able to complete our board walk project in the back half of the Tract.  Thanks to all who came out to help - we couldn't have done it without you!

Saturday, November 26 - IDNC CHRISTMAS GATHERING  (5:00 - 8:00 p.m.)

Join us for this seasonal celebration, to be held at the Ingersoll Services for Seniors Centre.  This pot luck dinner also features guest speaker Kristen Martyn of Natura Tours.  Kristen will provide narrative and a slide presentation on birds and wildlife from Costa Rica and Panama.   New members are always welcome - it's a great opportunity to get to know us.  Great food guaranteed... Wednesday, December 28 - The LAWSON NATURE RESERVE CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT  (9:30 a.m.) Bring binoculars!

Members, friends and all nature lovers are urged to count the numbers and species of birds at their feeding stations and neighbourhoods on December 28th.  Also scour the Lawson Nature Reserve for birds and at 1:00 p.m. we will tally the results.  Or you may phone in your count to Ross Snider 519-485-3885 by 6:00 p.m.  For further information call Don Bucknell at 519-485-1174.

Saturday, January 21 - THAMES TALBOT LAND TRUST (5 Points Forest)(Carpool at 9:30 a.m.)

Club members will depart the carpool location for a hike at the Talbot Land Trust, ending at Ross Snyder's bird sanctuary.  For more information, contact John at 519-485-7575.

Saturday, March 17 - TRILLIUM WOODS & OXFORD TRAIL (Carpool at 10:00 a.m.)

Saturday, March 31 - EARTH HOUR (8:30 p.m.)

On March 26 at 8:30 p.m. EST, hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for an hour to demand action on climate change.  But that's just the beginning.  Every hour, Canadians are taking small steps to lessen their impact on the environment.  Those small steps add up to huge changes for the better.  The Ingersoll District Nature Club challenges you to commit to action on Climate Change.  For more information, go to www.wwf.ca/earthhour/.

Saturday, April 12/13 - GREEN LIVING SHOW - TORONTO (10:00 a.m. TO 9:00 p.m.)

Whether you're a passionate eco-activist or a budding environmentalist, you'll find lots to inform, inspire and entertain you at the Green Living Show.

Saturday, April 21 - EARTH DAY CLEAN-UP @ THE LAWSON NATURE RESERVE - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 22 - EARTH DAY

Saturday, May 13  - TRILLIUM WALK DAYTIME FAMILY EVENT (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

Come meet the Naturalists - enjoy the trilliums and other spring flowers at the Lawson Nature Reserve.  Guided tours available - learn about our native flowers, frogs and trees.  Bring the whole family and explore the trails.  This month is Lawson Tract at it's best!

Saturday, September 15 - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (4:00 p.m.)

Join us for the potluck AGM meeting at the Bucknell homestead at 4:00 p.m.  If you care to explore the property with a guided tour, arrive at 2:00 p.m.  Go to McBeth Road, turn West and on the south side of the road look for #363284.  Bring your ideas for the next year's agenda - all are appreciated.  New members are always welcome to attend.  For more information - call Sheila at 519-485-2645.

Saturday, September 22 - OPEN DOORS OXFORD (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

Lawson Nature Reserve will open its gate to visitors who want to learn about the edible wild.  Information and interactive sessions available at the entrace - guided walks available.   For the hungry - (but not harvested at the Tract) - free hot dogs!  For information, contact Ken at 519-539-5234.

Saturday, October 20 - EMBRO POND CONSERVATION AREA (Carpool at 9:30 a.m.)

Enjoy the beauty of a Carolinian canopy in this well-treed conservation area - just north of Embro.  There are several loops, so hikers can go as short or as long a distance as they desire. For information, contact Sheila at 519-485-2645.
